Q and A?
Why learn in a tailwheel equipped airplane or get my TW endorsement?
Why not.
So what is the difference between a Tailwheel and one of those tricycle rigs?
Not much, except you fly the airplane that is tailwheel equipped to tie down. A new pilot that has learned to fly in a taildragger won't know the difference because of no exposure to"plastic", land by themselves, tricycle, automatic no groundloop airplanes.
Am I safer in a taiwheel airplane?
In my opinion yes. If you are flying a TW machine, hopefully signed off by a an Instructor, you should already be aware of the potential hazards involved. The benefits: You actually use your feet when needed, and can put her down anywhere if the engine quits. DAY VFR.
What makes you an expert?
Who said I am. No one should consider themselves an expert. Other folks might. My opinion is that any airplane can kill you if judgement and common sense is neglected. Set your limitations, know your airplanes limits and YOURS. In tailwheel airplanes you must fly to a stop. Don't let ATC, your passenger or your CFI tell you any different. I am subject to ground looping (loss of control on the ground). as anyone. Distraction, ATC or something stupid is usually the reason.
Reading this makes me nervous, why not just learn in something else, such as a tricycle airplane..Or, I'm already a hotshot pilot in tricycle spads, why take the chance?
You won't understand unless you experience it. Nothing in books will explain it. Flying tailwheel  aircraft on calm days is a riot. A little x-wind and the sweat, grey hair etc... can grow in a hurry.. Tailwheel flying will "bring you back to earth" in one form or another. Hopefully it is the ego.
